Momo City Avatar Customization
Unload bags, read hair labels, and stop losing mall purchases.
Momo City sells itself on avatars. The creator is the reason people waited through Robo Japan. 3D clothing, hair, makeup, accessories, and body presets go far beyond a classic Roblox catalog layer. This page is the practical layer on top of the pretty showcase video: where items actually go, how gacha tickets differ from Moni, why hair now shows a gender label, and how to recover from a bad reset.
Watch the early-access showcase in the middle for the range of faces and outfits. Then come back here because the number one support question is not “how do I look cute” — it is “where did my Ribbon Mall items go?”
Bags, mail, and the mall locker
Purchases, code items, and some chest rewards land in different buckets:
- Worn inventory — what is on the avatar now
- Shopping bags — mall carry-out. Early Alpha required unloading inside Ribbon Mall. The September patch lets you unload outside the mall too.
- Phone / messenger extras — stickers and themes had bugs; those were patched.
- Gacha ticket wallet — not clothing. Look at the gacha UI.
If an item vanished, do not buy it twice. Leave the server, rejoin, open bags, open phone, open clothing tabs. Creator videos specifically cover unloading mall items and then spinning gacha. Follow that order: unload, then gacha, then equip.
Hair, faces, and the gender label
The September patch added an indicator for what gender a hair is for before you buy it. Use it. Alpha hairs are styled assets, not always universal. Faces in Ribbon Select style shots are the billboard; your budget is not. Preview in the try-on if the shop offers it. Makeup and accessories often sell the look more than a 2,000 Moni hair you will replace after the next chest sweep.
Default avatars accidentally included Fang and Siren teeth for some players; the patch removed those from the default set. If your face still shows them, reopen the face picker and save. Avatar save failures were also patched — if a look does not persist, save twice and avoid resetting mid-edit.
Secret Castle and gamepass fashion
Secret Castle inside Ribbon Mall is the specialty / gamepass store. Feathered Angel and similar “wealthy citizen” pieces live here. The September notes added a Jirai Kei bundle in the Secret Castle phone app. That is a phone purchase path, not a floor mannequin. Check both. Rank these buys on the shop tier list and the VIP list so you do not double-pay for a silhouette chests already gave you.
Closet colors after 4 September
The Beary Decora patch added hex/RGB in avatar and closet menus, saved colors shared with the editor, better controllers, and console cursor mode. Re-equip braces if you wore the old teeth map. You can unequip body maps and teeth maps now. Pri-me tags should be readable again — look before you buy at Nami’s shop.
Gacha
Tickets come from codes (10GACHATICKETS) and whatever banners the mall is running. Studio also said some countries will spin gacha tickets only (no gacha coins) because of local gacha rules. If your shop shows tickets and not coins, that is the regional path, not a broken wallet. Gacha is optional flavour. Spend tickets when you want a surprise, not when you are trying to complete a daily outfit on a budget. Save a few tickets for event banners called out on updates.
Reset character
Resetting appearance or character now teleports you to spawn. That is a feature, not a bug, after the patch. Finish shopping, unequip bags, then reset. If you reset in a chair or on a bus, you will still pop to spawn — useful as emergency fast travel, annoying if you were mid check-out.
A sane customization order
- Loot airport + Plaza + village + island chests.
- Redeem codes and unload bags.
- Fix face/teeth/hair with the new labels.
- One shop goal from Nami’s Pri-me or EXEQ, not five.
- Optional Secret Castle or Jirai Kei if the silhouette is unique.
- Take a photobooth shot in the mall so you remember what you liked.
For NPC style references — gyaru Nami, idol-adjacent Princess Momo, darker EXEQ energy — use the players bios as moodboards, not as copy-paste requirements. Your avatar is the point of the sim.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Where did my mall clothes go?
Unload shopping bags. The patch allows unloading outside Ribbon Mall. Walkthrough energy matches the travel mall section.
Why does hair say a gender?
The September patch labels hair before purchase so you know the intended style. You can still ignore it if the mesh fits.
Should I buy Secret Castle first?
Usually no. Chests and codes first. Castle is specialty drip — see shop tiers.
Does reset delete items?
Reset sends you to spawn. Items should remain. If a look does not save, retry; save bugs were a patch target in Alpha notes.
